Gamescom Latam shows Brazil's game development scene has huge potential, but it's waiting for a spark.

The São Paulo event, Gamescom Latam, has been steadily growing and attracting attention. Eliana Russi, head of B2B at the event, emphasizes the need for more funding to propel Brazil's game development industry forward. While Brazil already has a well-established games industry trade body and a supportive legal framework, the key missing element is significant financial investment.

Gamescom Latam serves as a platform for Brazilian developers and Latin American countries to showcase their talents and attract potential investors. Despite the absence of PlayStation and Xbox stands, representatives from Sony and Microsoft were present, indicating interest in the region's gaming market. The event, which saw 130,000 visitors last year, continues to expand year by year.

Brazil's game development industry, although promising, is still considered to be in its early stages. Industry experts believe that Brazil is on the path towards AAA game development but is not quite there yet. The indie game scene in Brazil is vibrant, with notable titles like Talaka, Ghostless, and Rogue Reigns gaining attention. Government support, including tax incentives and grants, is seen as crucial to further boost the industry's growth and attract external investors.
