Marvel Contest of Champions studio Kabam lays off unknown number of staff in LA office consolidation
The developer of Marvel Contest of Champions, Kabam, has laid off an unknown number of employees as part of a consolidation of its office in Los Angeles, California. The move, confirmed to Game Developer, did not disclose the exact number of employees affected. No WARN notices have been filed with California's Employment Development Department yet.
Kabam decided to consolidate its LA office and streamline operations after reviewing strategic priorities. The company emphasized its commitment to partners and its ongoing projects. One Kabam LA staff member confirmed their layoff on LinkedIn and is currently seeking new opportunities.
Kabam's presence in Los Angeles stems from the acquisition of local studios Tapzen and Magic Pixel Games in 2015. These studios were merged into a new Kabam office in Culver City, led by industry veteran Mike Verdu. Following Kabam's acquisition by South Korean Netmarble in 2017, the company's US arm was integrated with Netmarble in 2022, resulting in another Los Angeles office under the Kabam brand.
