Nintendo has implemented purchase restrictions on the Switch 2 multi-language version in Japan.
Nintendo has decided to limit purchases of the multi-language version of the Switch 2 in Japan to one console per account. In addition, buyers must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on their Switch by the end of May 2026. This move comes as Nintendo prepares for price increases in the US, Canada, and Europe, aiming to prevent scalpers from exploiting the weaker yen.
These restrictions are similar to those implemented during the console's launch last year, where players in the US, Canada, and the UK had to meet specific criteria to purchase the device. Nintendo's decision to raise hardware prices was influenced by various factors, including rising component costs and market trends, according to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.
Furukawa emphasized the need to adapt to changing market conditions and ensure the company's profitability amid ongoing economic challenges.
