Terms such as 'NSFW' and 'Mature' removed in favour of more descriptive content labels, 17 new tags have been introduced
Valve has revamped the tag system on Steam by adding 17 new classifications, removing 28, and revising several others. Tags like 'NSFW' and 'Mature' were replaced with more descriptive options like 'Gore,' 'Violent,' and 'Sexual Content.' 'Well-Written' and 'Masterpiece' were eliminated due to inconsistent use, while tags like 'Drama' and 'Ambient' were removed for being too niche.
Specific intellectual property-related tags such as Lego and Warhammer 40k were taken out as they are already covered on franchise pages. New tags include keywords like 'Wolves' and 'Zoo,' broader genres such as 'Bullet Haven' and 'Desktop Companion,' and gameplay elements like 'Organising' and 'Decorating.'
Valve also clarified labels by renaming or merging entries to avoid overlap. For example, 'Pool' was changed to 'Billiards' to better represent cue stick games. These changes aim to assist players in finding games that match their preferences and to enhance Steam's recommendation system.
